Enhanced Public Health Communication Network
Project Overview
Our client, a government entity responsible for managing pandemics and crises in the state, faced a significant challenge: the lack of visibility and effective communication with off-duty health providers and first responders. This issue was particularly problematic during transportation restrictions, as the need for immediate response required locating the nearest available support. To address this, the client needed a system to enhance communication and collaboration across the broader healthcare network, improve capacity planning, and ensure faster response times during emergencies.
The Challenge
- Lack of visibility of off-duty health providers and first responders.
- Inefficient communication during crises, leading to delayed responses.
- Need for broader collaboration and better capacity planning.
- Requirement for a simple, non-intrusive system to coordinate healthcare responses.
The Solution
We developed a comprehensive solution comprising a mobile app (Pager) and a Command Center web app, leveraging microservices and cloud technology to enhance the public health communication network.
Mobile App (Pager)
- User Registration and Profile Creation: Allows users to register, create profiles, and set status rules (on call, away, out of town, or unavailable for emergencies) using geolocation.
- Privacy Protection: Geolocation rules are hidden from the client to protect user privacy.
- Volunteer Functionality: Enables ex-medical staff, ex-ambulance drivers, and first aid certified individuals to volunteer.
- Emergency Notifications: Provides functionalities for users to receive emergency notifications and tasks.
Command Center App
- Healthcare Network Overview: Allows public health staff to review the availability and specialties of various healthcare players, not limited to healthcare professionals.
- Volunteer Management: Enables public health staff to view and manage volunteers for public health initiatives.
- Real-Time Location Tracking: Displays real-time locations of pager users on an interactive dashboard.
- Direct Communication: Allows public health staff to send messages to users (groups or individuals) to drive immediate action.
The Results
The solution significantly improved crisis management capabilities, becoming a core application used by the crisis team. Key outcomes included:
- Enhanced Visibility: Provided real-time tracking and status updates of healthcare providers and volunteers.
- Improved Response Times: Enabled faster and more accurate responses to public health needs.
- Broader Collaboration: Facilitated better coordination and capacity planning across the healthcare network.
- Effective Community Outreach: Empowered public health teams to communicate directly with healthcare groups or individuals during emergencies.
Additional Benefits
- Volunteer Data: Gathered crucial information about volunteering teams and certified first aid individuals, which did not previously exist.
- Reliable Communication: Provided a robust communication system that remained functional as long as power and internet infrastructure were unaffected by the crisis.
Conclusion
Our enhanced public health communication network solution transformed the client's ability to manage crises efficiently and effectively. By integrating advanced technology with strategic design, we created a world-class system that ensures faster responses, better coordination, and improved public health outcomes. This project highlights our expertise in technology design and development, delivering innovative solutions that address critical public health challenges.
